Specifically regulates the expression of FGFR2-IIIb, an epithelial cell-specific isoform of FGFR2. Plays a role in myogenic differentiation. RNA结合蛋白特异性结合CDKN1A转录的3’-UTR，从而维持CDKN1A转录本的稳定性，从而作为p53／TP53家族调节CDKN1A的中介物。CDKN1A是由P53／TP53 FAM转录调控的细胞周期蛋白依赖性激酶抑制剂。ILY诱导细胞周期阻滞。异构体1，但不是异构体2，有能力诱导细胞周期阻滞在G1，并保持稳定的CDKN1A转录诱导的P53／TP53。也作为mRNA剪接因子。特异性调节FGFR2 IIIb的表达，FGFR2的上皮细胞特异性亚型。在肌源性分化中起作用。
